Barefoot Sue | CAMINO Peregrina Refused Access to Cathedral @barefootsue | Uploaded 5 years ago | Updated May 02 2024
After walking the Camino to Santiago barefoot, I was refused access into the Cathedral because I didn’t have any shoes on!
When I asked them why they said that it was because it was the rules. I said that pilgrims of the past would’ve walked in and their bare feet, and they have lots of statues and paintings of saints and holy people in their bare feet how could they refuse me. But the security guard wouldn’t change his mind.
Thankfully there was a woman there begging for money because she has cancer and can’t work. Her name was Vanessa and she offered me her shoes. Even though they didn’t fit we push the heel down and I stuck my foot inside the shoe to make it look like I was wearing shoes. I had promised my friend Ingrid that I would ‘hug the apostle’ for her to commemorate her anniversary walking into Santiago a year ago. Thank you Vanessa for not judging me because I was in my bare feet. And thank you for lending me your shoes and not being afraid of the health issues of sharing them.
