This game went swimmingly for me, landing the 21 at cost on turn 2 followed by the 22 at cost a bit later (25 was on deck then). Started Step 2 ASAP which i think was clearly the right move, but chose one city incorrectly. Specifically, i should've gone to Limoges instead of Bordeaux - that gets me closer to the aqua region, which is the main prize on this config after Paris & its surrounding area.
As for the others, Stein paid big for the 26 on turn 3 after landing the 11 on turn 2. He couldn't build a 3rd city that turn, leaving him behind the 8-ball on money for a while. Usually Stein is the one with the cheaper efficient plants, not the expensive high-capacity plants early! JVis & amitss struggled through Step 1 with rather mediocre plants, though less so in JVis's case.
The first turn of Step 2 was a big one for plants, with JVis paying almost $45 for the 25 and me buying the 27 afterward. Stein surprisingly passed on the 29 and let amitss have it at cost. Really liked my setup with 21 + 2 big green plants, as i could reach 9 cities right away and make a ton of money from that.
The turn after, though, i had to abandon ship on that. The 20 arrived and coal was cheap, so i won it for $27. Stein actually bought the 12 after that to drive up coal a bit, but it was still pretty good for me. A couple turns afterward we got to bid on the 30, and i won it for a bit over $50; i don't usually play like this, but the game moved slowly enough that we would only get one turn of the Step 3 auction. This does mean 27 didn't make me much money, but i had no other choice to stay competitive.
Step 3 auction was pretty self-explanatory since the game was ending that turn. That meant 50 was a lot less valuable due to its high starting price. I had thought this game was mine all the way, but JVis surprised me with his first win in any game against me!
Looking back at it, my big weakness in this one was builds. A lot of it goes back to that Limoges vs. Bordeaux decision, which cost me the aqua region. JVis got there in Step 2 while i was stuck with a bunch of Step 3 cities, and that made the difference.
