Yay, finally some more Germany love! This is the most difficult BSW map to play well in my view, so it's good to have more videos of it!
Germany's tough builds change the opening a bit. Normally i prefer 08 over 09 as a starting plant since it makes you more money over the first two turns, but Germany offers so few safe single-builds that 09 can get you a good spot in the turn order for turn 2. 03 & 04 are also worth more on here.
Dionis made a huge mistake right off the bat with 03, building just 1 city in red. Used to do this myself and would get away with it against less experienced players, but eventually i learned that you have to build 3 in that cheap red/blue area to be safe. Tinchen was the one who punished the greed there, while i took a nice safe double-build in blue & yellow. On any other map i almost exclusively build 1 with 03 or 04, but Germany calls for some more desperate measures!
The early market was a bit tough, making me very glad to have 13 at cost. 15 actually saw some bidding, and 18 saw a huge amount of bidding with 25 sitting right behind it in the market. 22 came after followed by a dud, forcing me to buy 11. From there it was a matter of patience, not overpaying for the 25 then passing on the 20 altogether. Dionis consistently overbid for plants throughout this game trying to drive up the cost for others, and he kept getting stuck with stuff he didn't need.
Waiting eventually netted me the 21 at cost, which pleasantly shocked me. That immediately led me to trigger Step 2 since that would clear two bad plants off the market and make me a lot of money that turn. Also pay attention to my resource usage on the 21 throughout this game...
Triggering Step 2 gave me an opportunity to buy the 30, and i won it for around $50. With trash being so cheap by that point, it was a great value that allowed me to use all my plants on the following turn. The game came down to me vs. Amitss, who got use out of 16 early followed by cheap 20 & 29 later.
The key auction came on the first turn of Step 3, when Amitss & i went at it for the 38 after i bid the 50 quite high for Dionis. Having a 6-cap plant meant that i could reach 18 next turn without needing a 7, so i let Amitss have 38 for just over $60. That rewarded me with the 39 at cost, and i cruised to an easy win from there. Look at how long i stored that coal on the 21 before using it!
