First time playing with polarexpress - they have one of the highest winrates i've seen for a player with that many games!
This game came down to me not reading the room correctly in the 21 auction. Amitss had just bought 16 on the previous turn and had a bunch of extra resources stored, so they wouldn't have much money. That should've led me to pass earlier and see if i could land 29. Amitss ended up getting 29 at cost on the next turn when JVis should've bid on it but didn't (and got punished hard).
My starting build was interesting but i'm not so sure about it in retrospect. Thought Orleans would be better than the 3rd spot in Paris since it helps your later expansion, but it meant i could only power 2 cities on the second turn. Should've considered how important that would be - board games in general seem to reward short-term over long-term play at the highest level.
The game was solidified once the 20 came on. i wasn't in a great position to bid on it, so i just passed since 31 was on deck. Amitss got the 20 real cheap and 31 never arrived until the last turn, making it a ridiculous value for him. We just couldn't stop him at that point, even when JVis managed to tie him in capacity.
A misclick may have actually determined the winner, though! JVis forgot to run the 23 on one turn, and we did the math & figured he would've won had he done that and Amitss still ended the game on 14 capacity. THIS IS WHY WE NEED POWER GRID WITH UNDOS (AND ALL THE MAPS AND THE ALTERNATE POWER PLANT DECK AND), BOARD GAME ARENA.
