Yay, more France 6P action! Tellin ya, opening with Plant 11 isn't the win button people think it is...
It *was* pretty darned great here, though, and i was the beneficiary of it! Early market was a lot slower than usual for 6P, giving me a nice edge. Unfortunately i just didn't quite bid right for the market here - 33/34/35 all showed up in the early-mid game while i paid fair value for 21 & 20. Those higher plants did make resources a lot cheaper for me, at least, and i worked the turn order with my low-numbered plants. Mastaba's p25 on turn 3 was probably the best value of the game since coal competition was unusually low throughout...he would've crushed this one even harder had he not overpaid for 35 compared to the prices for 34 & 26.
In the end, my bottom turn order allllllmost won me the game. Ended up with the 36 real cheap, but the issue was that i had oil stored on the 21 when i didn't need it. Storing resources usually isn't worth it in general if you're low in the turn order for 6er, due to the ridiculous restock rates on everything. Had i not bought that oil and replaced the 21 instead of the 11, i would've gotten exactly 14 capacity and beaten Mastaba on money! As is i finished $2 behind. =( Lesson learned: always be conscious of those small mistakes!
This game also showcases the main downside to Stein's style of play: getting screwed by bad plant drops when you build low plants out of the market. This was a pretty extreme case of bad luck, but in general it's a higher-risk approach in 5-6 player games.
