Finally we get to see the return of Bode, arguably the best Power Grid player in the world! We've had a lot of back & forth in our 2P games, and this was another one that came down to the wire.
This one really shows how much Baden changes your play, with much more careful building & different plant choices as part of the jockeying for turn order. You can see a couple spots where Bode doesn't buy a plant at all as part of this.
Bode got the early advantage with 20 + 13, but i stuck him with the 25 & got 26 at cost with $2 oil! Felt good with that, 23 as the best available nuclear plant before Step 3 (and a potential endgame plant), and 15 to attack his coal. Got outplayed some on the builds though, need a lot more experience on these Baden configs to figure out the best routes!
The key decision came at the end, as both of us needed a 7-capacity plant to complete our rosters but none came. Bode was stuck with 31 to go along with his other coal-guzzlers, and he bought a bunch of extra resources then built to 20 cities. At this juncture i could either build to 19 (staying below Bode) and safely run all my plants before buying 33 to end on the next turn, or ending the game right there. My concern was that Bode wouldn't have to buy many resources next turn while i would, and i made a total mistake in forgetting that he would have to buy a much costlier plant than me next turn; since he had trash stored on the 24, he would've needed to buy a 6-cap compared to my cheap 4-cap. Forgetting this, i ended the game right away...and it cost me. Would've won this had i waited, dammit!
