FYI: My mic was muted for about the first half of this game. Sorry!
Got a lot more Germany games coming up on this channel, which i'm fine with since it's the toughest BSW map to play well...
Mastaba was given a ton of open space thanks to a rather "creative" build from JVis. He was following my advice of going for the cheapest cities early, but didn't realize that Erfurt-Leipzig would give a lot more options for Step 2 expansion and keep other players in check.
Stein bought 07 trying to play the turn order game, then went for a surprisingly early 11 ($10 uranium!). He wanted to take his 4 cheap cities before JVis went for them, so this is an interesting & unusual play to see. He ended up getting 25 for around $43 not long after that - not much more than my 21 for $35! Mastaba got the 26 for just over $40 the turn after that, putting him in the driver's seat with all his available Step 1 cities.
Meanwhile: RARE FOOTAGE OF 14 BEING BOUGHT. Trash was so cheap & the market so bad that it was kinda justifiable, too. 16 was probably better to attack oil though. Mastaba even bought 19 a while after that too - can't recall seeing both of those being used at once.
Ended up running with two 4-cap plants, which i'm fine with on Germany; longer games mean more time for those plants to make you a profit. We made it to Step 3 with plenty of time for me to catch up!
Step 3 was interesting, with 30 being available and trash at $1. The problem was that 39 was also there with cheap uranium, so i ended up bidding Mastaba rather low for the 30. i needed a 7-cap, and landed 36 pretty cheap! Also decided to replace 21 instead of 13 figuring that Stein would prevent Mastaba from ending, and that was exactly what happened.
The last turn saw an all-out war for the 38. This was the only plant that could get me or Mastaba to 18 capacity, and Mastaba turned out to be ever so slightly richer than me. Stein & i tried to block Mastaba's builds the best we could while reaching 17 cities, but he made it with just $2 to spare. Feel like i was more successful than Mastaba in everything else, but the opening builds were what won it for him.
