While he hits pretty hard, it's really easy to avoid his attacks. Like most enemies in the game, wait for him to attack before you attack him. He has two types of attacks. One is a standard ground attack that he does twice in succession. Wait for him to finish the second attack before attacking him twice. A third attack will probably get you hit. The second type of attack is 4 ground pounds in a row that have a small aoe effect. Stay away from him while he's doing this, but as soon as he's done you can get a 3 hit combo in. Keep this up until he's dead.
