The Tradecraft quest takes about 30 minutes or so to complete. There's no fast travel to the start location, so you have to run a bit from Drumlin Diner. There's quite a bit of conversation and they explain what many of the symbols you see in the world written in chalk (or paint) mean as well. Inside the base you'll run into quite a few synth. The fighting isn't overly difficult, and as usual I'd recommend the combat rifle for most of the fighting here. A combat shotgun can be useful depending on the situation as well.
There's a couple good reasons for doing this quest. First of all you get a pretty decent 10mm pistol that does more damage than most (though it unfortunately can't be upgraded with a reflex sight). You'll also find a U.S. Covert Operations Manual as well here. And at the end you gain access to the Railroad base and more quests.
Good luck!
