Hi Guys and Gals Here we have the Trackmaster revolution Diesel released in 2014, How will he go on the railway? All will be revealed!
Something weird was going on with my pc when I edited this video but it seems to be ok except for the transitions between scenes but it's still watchable.
So I bought this last year on sale from Big W (kind of like a rubbish walmart), it was on sale in the lead up to Christmas and I think I paid $15 (the regular price is $22). Diesel and all the new trackmaster single engines are packaged in a blister on a card. The packaging is very boring and I was happy to free it from the packaging quickly.
Looks: Well he looks like Diesel from the show (kind of), He has no rear cab windows and no buffers on the front just protrusions! Why couldn't they add siderods now!? All the tooling for drive units is the same and them not adding siderods now (at very minimal cost impact) is kind of a slap in the face for fans. It's like they wont admit they were wrong they are very very stubborn (TOMY/Trackmaster Diesel has never had siderods so why should we add them now!? this will do and no-one will care). If it had rods it could have been something very special.
Running: Diesel like all the regular Trackmaster revolution locos runs on a pair of AAA batteries (we saw in the behind the rails video that increased speed with minimal cost impact for Mattel was the goal) So you have achieved your cost impact minimizing goal Mattel well done. I love having to buy twice as many batteries and a more expensive size *Golf clap*. Despite this the drive unit runs smoothly but I needed to modify it to run on the blue track thanks to the anti backwards compatibility design of the toothed wheel and low hanging activation tab. After I corrected these faults and added 3/4oz of weight over the drive wheels it ran almost incident free with a very decent speed. I sort of had one of my modded locos on track to see the speed difference and trackmaster 2 is quite slower.
Score: Well lacking rods when they have the tooling and ability to add them is a disgrace. It would have cost them an extra couple of cents per locomotive. Due to the lack of rods, disappearance of the front buffers and lack of rear cab windows,
I am giving this Diesel a score of 7/10. Even though Diesel is my favorite character I am disappointed Mattel, Yes!
