Hi Guys and Gals here we have the long awaited All New Plarail Gator & Marion set, but is it worth it? YEP!
So upon unboxing the pair I was delighted with the painted details on Gator but Marion being unpowered was a huge letdown but not the end of the world. Gator has all the lovely details you would expect from plarail and is very accurate to the Gator we see on TV.
Marion has a shovel arm that moves in a swivel and an up and down motion with a ratchet motion on the orange part of the arm where its connected to the base, it moves up and down with a solid click for each notch and holds in place well. Marion is missing some painted details like the stripe down the side and a painted window but these can be addressed with a bit of customizing. Marion is a free rolling loco the same as a truck or a coach which means she has to be towed around to her jobs :)
Gator runs on a single AA battery and has the newer type of plarail drive unit we have seen before, it has a very complex gearset which I feel is not necessary seeing as the earlier ones had 3 or 4 gears for a single speed. Gator does run very well on the blue track and LOOKS FANTASTIC when going along, the difference between the Plarail and the Trackmaster version are like night and day and the Plarail version definitely comes out on top.
I give Plarail Gator and Marion set a coveted 9/10
it would have been a perfect score or higher if Marion was powered or at least had more painted details but I do realize there is a production price point which has to be met with both companies and that Plarail price point that is higher than the trackmaster price point just give a better engine in every conceivable way at the end of the day.
