Hi Guys and Gals! here we have Trackmaster Caitlin the streamline engine. I bought this engine on ebay when all the auction hype had settled down and got all 3 engines in a buy it now for less than $50 each.
The Good:
This engine was one i couldn't wait to unbox and have a play with but real life got in the way as it often does, its a good looking engine with excellent length overall and it mostly looks like the engine it is based on (an American steamline steam loco). its paint and decals are crisp and all fitted properly the face also looks accurate to the show, the drive unit (flat type AA) was silent and a decent performer as they usually are. It tracked well around all the tricky sections of track before it was modified so thumbs up to TM for that!
The Bad:
Well the first bad thing that was staring me in the face when i received the engine was the coach, you can't really call it a coach to be honest and the fact they do its just shameful! it is a truck with a sticker on the side. Many reviewers have covered this point already and covered it well so i will say no more on the "coach". The second problem i noticed was that the traction tires are very badly moulded (I can see where the join is) and they are not quite round so the fact that it runs as well as it does is amazing. The third and most troubling thing was that this loco does not fit on the turntable, both products are trackmaster! the motorized tidmouth sheds set is a premium set, they therefore could surely test each new loco on the flagship set before they are given the ok or perhaps its that they just don't care and rush things out to get more $$$.
Anyway overall the good looks save the day and after modifying it with a new motor it is an amazing fast performer, it did have some problems in some sections but i feel the front end may be too light and thats an easy fix. I will report back here in the comments if it can't be fixed.
I give this loco a score of 8/10 it does have some issues but a great addition to the collection and heres hoping they do more locomotives and not just recolors and stupid themed sets.
Did you see 3v 2 speed Boco with led lamp? hehe Caitlin is almost as fast now.
