Hey peoples, I bought this on ebay a couple of weeks ago and was very happy to see it in the mailbox today!!
I believe its a class 43 125 HST train (as thats what it looks like) but the addition of a pantograph on the roof to collect electricity is confusing as the class 43 HST is of course a diesel electric locomotive :). These trains started to be delivered to British railways in 1975 and had a top speed of 125mph in service (148mph has been achieved though). After British rail was privatised allot of these trains went to various privately owned railways in britain and went through various upgrades to keep them reliable and more fuel efficient. As new electric high speed trains and new DMU's were introduced almost all of these trains were mothballed in storage.
So this TOMY HST is a great little runner it runs on a single C size battery and comes standard with only a high speed drive unit. I have replaced the drive unit in mine to become a 2 speed drive unit. (the drive units are identical to shinkansen trains that I own) Not much else to say about it except i'm very happy with how well it goes and it looks fantastic. It seems a rare thing to get a TOMY train that is not Japanese and as soon as I found out that this train existed i tried hard to find one. there are allot of these trains for sale on ebay uk but the sellers do not want to post internationally :(, one seller did though and i am very grateful!!
