MC Toy Lancia Rally 037 custom

The Lancia 037 is one of the most iconic rally cars ever built, and in this video I take a lesser spotted diecast example and transform it into a more accurate representation of the road-going 037 Stradale.

The model featured here was produced by MC Toy and information is scarce, but the casting was also released under the Edocar brand and appears with only a couple of colour variations.

Developed to compete in the fearsome Group B era of rallying, the 037 was based on the road-going Stradale version produced for homologation purposes. The story of Lancia reportedly moving unfinished cars around during FIA inspections to help demonstrate the required production numbers has become one of rallying's most enduring legends. On the stages, the 037 achieved something even more remarkable, securing the 1983 World Rally Championship Manufacturers' title and becoming the last rear-wheel-drive car ever to win the championship, defeating the four-wheel-drive Audi Quattro in the process.

Looking at the casting, I believe it more closely resembles the 037 Stradale than the competition rally car. The rear end is the biggest clue, with its rectangular tail lights rather than the round units seen on the rally version. With that in mind, I decided to steer the project in a road car direction, fitting more appropriate wheels, refinishing the body in a Stradale-inspired red, and adding interior detailing to bring the little model closer to the real thing.
