MAJORETTE 225 Citroën BX 4TC custom
The Citroën BX 4TC is remembered as one of the most infamous cars of the Group B era. Developed from the everyday BX hatchback and rushed into competition for the 1986 World Rally Championship, the four-wheel-drive turbocharged machine struggled against established rivals such as the Peugeot 205 T16, Lancia Delta S4 and Audi Sport Quattro. Across just three World Rally Championship events – Monte Carlo, Sweden and the Acropolis Rally – the BX 4TC managed only a single finish before Citroën withdrew the programme. Its best and only points-scoring result came at the 1986 Swedish Rally, where Jean-Claude Andruet guided the car to 6th place overall.
In this video, I restore and restomod a Majorette No. 225 Citroën BX 4TC. Produced between 1987 and 1989, the model remained largely unchanged throughout its production run, with only minor decal variations and the later addition of opening doors. The casting was originally decorated in a simplified livery inspired by the BX 4TC's debut appearance at the 1986 Monte Carlo Rally.
My example had certainly seen better days. The paintwork was heavily worn, the wheels were comically oversized, and both the A- and B-pillars had been broken away from the body. Before any cosmetic work could begin, the damaged pillars needed to be carefully repaired and reconstructed.
Once the structural repairs were complete, I repainted the model in its original colour scheme before replacing the toy-like graphics with authentic rally decals. The finished model faithfully recreates Jean-Claude Andruet's number 10 Citroën BX 4TC from the 1986 Swedish Rally, the event that produced the car's best World Rally Championship result and the only points finish of its brief WRC career. I also detail the interior and replace the oversized wheels with a more realistic period-correct set to better capture the look of Citroën's ill-fated Group B challenger.
