MAJORETTE Fiat Ritmo / Strada custom
I've learnt to appreciate the design of the original 1978-1982 Fiat Ritmo (or Strada if you are from the UK, US or Canada). Its interesting design was quite a bold move from Fiat when hatchbacks were only just taking off as the new norm for small family transportation. The big, wide headlights intersecting the bumper bar and chunky rubber bumpers helped give it real character. It provided a real step up from the 128 that it replaced, being much quieter thanks to better insulation yet sharing the same engines as its predecessor. It would ultimately receive a more conventional grille and headlight arrangement with the 1982 facelift and it would live on in production until 1988.
There's also an interesting story about the SEAT Ritmo, later Ronda, to be told which played a part in the demise of Fiat's long running relationship with the Spanish manufacturer.
Majorette's model came out in 1981, just prior to the car receiving it's distinct facelift, which usually means the diecast replicas have a short life span. The model would be produced until 1986 in a few colour variations so this was a bit of an outlier in that regard despite being outdated almost straight away.
Fiat introduced a very stringent body colour and interior colour combinations on the Ritmo/ Strada which I wanted to authentically replicate on this casting too. But the biggest issue for me was copying those unusual steel wheels the car was offered with, featuring a pair of opposing black stripes running across the centre of the rim. I ended up getting a 3D printed disc style wheel and drawing the design on myself. Be sure to let me know what you think of my solution!

![MAJORETTE restomod: 284 Saab Turbo
Restomodding a Majorette 284 Saab Turbo, in the Serie 200 range from 1982 until 1988.
For this glow up, Ive taken Majorettes beautiful recreation of a Saab 900 Turbo from 1982. Ive not done much to it, keeping the same black exterior and cream interior colour scheme, but Ive picked out some details and given it a superb set of period correct Ronal Inca wheels from Diecast Details.
The Saab 900 Turbo was one of the first mass-market turbocharged cars. Saab continued their good work from the 99 with its successor the 900 in 1978. Visually similar, the Swedish manufacturer continued to focus on aerodynamics owing to their aeronautical background. It quickly gained a reputation for its robust and dependable mechanicals. The 900 lasted for 20 years, with the New Generation based on a GM platform only arriving in 1994 following General Motors takeover of Saab.
Majorette introduced the casting in 1982. Due to its larger rear light clusters, you are able to tell that this is based on a post-1980 Turbo as the earlier models had smaller clusters similar to the 99. My model was from that first year of production, with variations available up until 1988. Spot the sports equipment on the rear shelf - a hallmark of any 1980s Majorette model!

![SCHUCO Super Schnell restoration: Audi 100 Coupe
Restoring a Schuco 821 Audi 100 Coupe, in the Super Schnell series from 1970 until 1976.
I firmly believe that the Audi 100 Coupé S is one of the finest looking machines to come out of Germany, arguably ever. The car took the good front-end looks of the Audi 100 sedan and teamed it with a flowing fastback. It was a vision of things to come for Audi. The 100 Coupe was powered by a 1.9 litre 4-cylinder engine but it was lightweight and twin carbureted initially, producing 115hp. It lasted from 1969 to 1976 before being discontinued, but it did help lay the foundations for Porsches own grand touring coupé, the 928.
Schuco introduced the Audi 100 Coupe model to their Super Schnell range in 1970 and it likely lasted through until the companys bankruptcy in 1976. It had 10 different colour variations, reflecting just a handful of the colours the real cars can be found in.
My example was a red plastic interior-bestowed light metallic blue casting that had flaked away on the roof, while the exposed metal base had dulled significantly. I love restoring these Schuco models as they are so simple to dismantle and reassemble, and this was no exception. Im already looking forward to my next Schuco project!
