MATCHBOX 66d Mazda RX500 custom
The Mazda RX500 was a rotary-powered concept car revealed in 1970, showcasing Mazda’s vision for the future of high-performance motoring. Futuristic, lightweight and inspired by a Stanley Kubrick movie, it became one of the most intriguing “what if?” supercars never to reach production.
Matchbox leapt on the astonishing piece of design for their new Superfast series in 1971 as it perfectly fit the fantastical ethos they were going for.
I take a mid-70s 'Streakers' version of the model and transform it into a detailed replica of the one-off machine in it's most recent silver over black livery. I equip it with period correct decals, details and wheels as an homage to the forgotten rotary supercar.
