MINICHAMPS Ford Focus custom
To honour a car that means far more than just a simple mode transport, I transformed Minichamps' 1:43 scale Ford Focus into a replica of the Focus now cared for by Jake and his dad. Having belonged to Jake's grandfather until his passing in 2022, the car has become a cherished family heirloom. As Jake and his dad continue restoring the full-size Focus to the condition his grandfather would have been proud of, this commission piece serves as a small tribute to both the car and the family history it represents.
The Ford Focus arrived in 1998 as the replacement for the ageing Escort, bringing sharp "New Edge" styling, class-leading handling and vastly improved refinement. Praised by journalists and enthusiasts alike, it won the 1999 European Car of the Year award and quickly became one of Ford's best-selling models, remaining in production until it was succeeded by the Mk2 Focus in 2004.
Minichamps released this 1:43 Ford Focus in only a limited range of colours. While the 3-door version appeared in a metallic dark red similar to Jake’s car, the more widely produced 5-door variant was primarily issued in silver as a Ford Dealership Edition. To better reflect the real car, I resprayed the model into the correct shade and added a series of subtle detailing touches, bringing it closer to Jake’s Focus and giving the replica a more personal, authentic finish.
