On May 9, 2024. A man called the Mequon Police Department to report a suspicious vehicle driving through his yard. An officer responded and observed the vehicle driving through yards and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle drove back onto the road before driving down a walking path and striking a tree. The driver (Daniel) then exited his vehicle and fled on foot.
The officer pursued after and was able to quickly detain Daniel after he tripped and fell. Daniel followed the officers commands and was secured in handcuffs before being placed into a squad car. While Daniel was being searched, he showed signs of impairment and repeatedly said that he was “sorry”. Daniel started to become emotional and mentioned that he was only 20 years old.
As officers began searching the vehicle, they observed an open can of beer in the cup holder, a case of beer on the passenger seat, numerous empty cases of beer in the truck, suspected marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Daniel refused a blood draw but officers were able to obtain a warrant. After Daniel’s blood was drawn, he was transported to jail and released to jail staff.
Daniel was found guilty for Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer, Criminal Damage to Property, and OWI (2nd). He was sentenced to 1 year in prison, 135 days in jail, and 1 year of extended supervision. Daniel was also ordered to pay $3,629 in fines and his license got revoked for 16 months.
