On September 1, 2024. A Dunn County Sheriff's Department deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for going 85 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. It slowed down briefly and appeared to be stopping before the vehicle abruptly accelerated to speeds over 110 MPH. The pursuit lasted approximately 8.8 miles with the suspect vehicle disregarding stop signs, and passing vehicles in no-passing zones. It ended after a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) Maneuver was utilized which disabled the vehicle. The driver, who was later identified as a 17 year-old named Jeffrey, was ordered to exit the vehicle. He was compliant and was secured in handcuffs. A Deputy placed Jeffrey into a squad car and questioned him. A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana, and a smoking device. Upon checking Jeffrey’'s driver's license status, it showed him not to hold, nor ever to have held a valid driver's license. After being read his Miranda Rights, Jeffrey admitted to having the marijuana and claimed that his last use of THC was the night prior. Jeffrey stated that it was his mothers vehicle and that she did not give him permission to use it. Field sobriety tests were conducted and deputies observed signs and symptoms that were consistent with cannabis use. Jeffrey was transported to the hospital for a blood draw before being booked into the county Jail. He was found guilty for Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer. Jeffrey was sentenced to 12 months in jail with Huber/ work release privileges, 2 years of probation and ordered to pay over $7000 in restitution.
