On December 20, 2024. A Loss Prevention Employee at Woodman's witnessed a female subject failing to scan seafood items in her cart, eventually concealing them beneath purchased items in her cart. She made payment for her scanned items with EBT, but made no attempt to scan or pay for the seafood. Unknown to employees at the time, she also stole a snowbrush as she was exiting the store. The female subject was approached by an employee and surrendered the concealed seafood items, but kept the snow brush in her cart. She departed the premises as the driver of a white Nissan. The store reviewed the security camera footage and realized that the female also took a snow brush. They determined that they had a loss of $10.49, and recovered $133.47 from the crab legs. Woodman's contacted the Altoona Police Department and provided a license plate of the vehicle that the female left in.
Officers looked up a photo of the registered owner (Adia) and realized that it was the same female that was reported stealing from Woodman's. Officers responded to her house and met with a female who said she was Adia's mother. The mother said Adia had just left but was able to call her and tell her to come back. Adia returned driving the same white sedan that she drove in the security footage. Adia admitted to taking the crab legs but said a manager took them back from her. The officer told Adia that she took the crab legs out of the store without paying for them, which was retail theft. Adia was also questioned about the snow brush. Adia admitted to stealing it and said she could return it to Woodman's. Adia was found guilty for retail theft, she was ordered to pay a $232 fine and she was banned from all Woodman's for life. The officer originally thought that she would only be banned for a year but Woodsman’s decided to ban her for life.
