On September 9, 2024. An officer from the Middleton Police Department Conducted a traffic stop on a red Jeep Cherokee that did not have its lights on at night. The officer approached the driver and asked for identification. The driver stated he did not have a license on his but verbally identified himself as Andre. It was later determined that he was lying and that his real name was Donte. Donte explained that he was heading to the Fairfield Inn to meet with a friend. The officer returned to his squad and attempted to do a records check but could not locate any information on Andre. A Fast ID was brought to the location in an attempt to identify the driver. When asked to exit the vehicle, the driver requested a supervisor who was already on scene. The driver proceeded to say “I don't quite agree with that so I think I'm gonna just get going here” and fled the traffic stop. Officers decided not to pursue the driver but attempted to locate the vehicle. They went to the Fairfield Inn and an employee stated there was no one staying at the hotel with the name of Andre nor was there a red Jeep Cherokee in the parking lot recently.
The next day, on September 10th, the city of Madison received a call for a single vehicle crash. The vehicle was the red Jeep Cherokee with the same plates as the vehicle that fled the previous day. Officers observed the vehicle crashed against a large green utility box. All the doors were shut, but tracks in the grass showed a person heading southwest toward a nearby parking lot and office building. The vehicle was still in drive and all in plain view was a glass pipe with white residue inside. Officers also observed small pieces of a white rock-like substance on the driver's seat. About an hour and a half later, officers were dispatched to a business for an individual whose appearance matched the suspect from the previous night, wandering around the building.
City of Middleton officers and city of Madison officers responded. Donte was located and secured in handcuffs. Donte stated that he fled because he had warrants. A search of his person did not reveal anything of evidentiary value. Donte was complaining of left arm and jaw pain. Paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital for medical clearance. While waiting for the paramedics, Donte said he crashed into a tree before crashing into a large utility box. After medical clearance, Donte was transported to the Dane County Jail.
The white rock-like substance located in the vehicle tested positive for cocaine with a weight of 0.43g. Donte was found guilty for Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer. He spent 24 days in jail and was sentenced to 3 years of probation.
