On April 23, 2024. An officer from the Lake Hallie Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle with plates that expired in 2011. When the officer activated her emergency lights, the vehicle accelerated and refused to pull over. The suspect (Anthony) eventually came to a stop at a red light but decided to take off when he was about to get boxed in by officers. Anthony continued to drive approximately 20 miles over the speed limit before an officer was able to successfully deploy a spike strip. He stopped shortly after and was ordered to exit from the truck. He was searched and placed into a squad car. Officers later learned that the truck was stolen and located an open bottle of whisky inside. Anthony refused to do field sobriety tests or do a blood draw. Officers got a warrant and he was transported to the hospital for a blood draw. Anthony was found guilty for Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer, and OWI (2nd). He was sentenced to 10 months in jail and ordered to pay $2250 in fines.
