On a mission to find Bangkok's best Hainan Chicken Rice, we end up following the path of the earliest Hainanese immigrants to the country, and the economy they'd eventually create: the very first western restaurants in Thailand.
This is not the stuff of our memories- it's more like what might happen if foreign dishes were recreated from photos out of 1930s magazines. It's fascinating, wildly entertaining, and almost extinct- in fact, only a few of these irreplaceable "Cook Shops" still exist. So we set out to tell the story, while we still can.
