Admit it- you thought Pineapple Fried Rice was invented for foreigners, like General Tso's Chicken or Crab Rangoon. It certainly seems like it- it's more famous at overseas Thai restaurants than in Thailand, most Thai locals have never tried it or even heard of it, and it's exactly the kind of ostentatious, over-the-top dish perfect for social media vacation photos. But when we found reference to Pineapple Fried Rice recorded in Bangkok a hundred years ago, we started digging, and ended up down a rabbit hole of money and exploration that we never anticipated. This is the absolutely wild story of Pineapple Fried Rice.
