...So after learning about titanium's pyrophoric properties from @aioninnovation, who makes the amazing #tistrike, I was curious whether a titanium tent peg would perform in the same way.

...OK let's just clarify what pyrophoric materials are in a bit more detail first. It basically means that they will ignite instantly on exposure to oxygen so if you shave off a tiny piece off a pyrophoric metal, by striking it with a hard stone, you increase its surface area & the clean metal exposed to the air will spontaneously combust forming the spark we see. So the sparks we see from flint & steel are actually tiny pieces of burning metal.

...Anyway titanium works too but it needs to be struck against a hard stone to make it spark & these sparks burn hotter & last longer than steel sparks. It sort if reminds me of a cross between a ferro rod and flint & steel.

...Well as you see it works just fine especially with some flash tinder like the kapok I used but it will also ignite many other tinders with practice including birch bark & fatwood shavings.

...So in a pinch a titanium tent peg would work & I've got titanium welding rods to work in the same way but if you want a professionally crafted striker head over to #aioninnovation & grab one of his amazing Tistrikers
