...So here's my first attempt at a reverse bow drill. It's an idea I picked up from @dalemgumino who made a post recently demonstrating this technique.

...You basically turn the spindle upside down & use the same wood as the hearth as a notchless hand held & the ember forms in a hole in the end of the spindle. Dalem use a much larger spindle & a depression in the exposed rock in a stream but I used my firestone pressed in the crevice of my practice stump.

...I got to say it took a bit to get the feel for it but after many flip outs I got it running smoothly & Thought I'd got it quite a few times but every time the ember fizzled out. The material was Malayan cherry & I've made many notchless embers in the past but I think the inhibiting factor here was the high humidity.

...I have another idea how I could make this work & I'll give it another try soon but meanwhile go & check out @dalemgumino
