I was truly astonished to meet yet another uncommon Brown Shrike ssp lucionensis, just a week after the other left. This time, I met it in a nature park, perched quietly at rest on a hot sunny afternoon.
This Brown Shrike is special; it has a grey washed crown instead of the usual brown, suggesting that it is of ssp lucionensis. A distinctive white throat, a thinner supercilium and ash-brown upperparts are features that distinguish it from the more common migratory Brown Shrike (ssp cristatus)
This subspecies lucionensis is uncommon in Singapore.
