To meet this very shy but beautiful bird, I had to tiptoe silently, scouring through the forest floor for one whole afternoon. Thankfully, I was blessed to meet, not one but two Red- backed Thrushes. It was a pair of an adult and a juvenile. Both were hopping around quietly, foraging on the forest floor, before flying up to rest on elevated perches.
Bearing a close resemblance to the Chestnut-backed Thrush, this gorgeous bird is adorned with the namesake chestnut upper back with contrasting black & white wing patterns. White facial patches & pied markings underparts added to its striking looks.
Red- backed Thrushes are endemic to Sulawesi & surrounding islands of Indonesia.
Their conservation status is listed as Near Threatened, mainly as a result of habitat destruction.
