The King Vulture gets very limited showtime whenever it was presented in the daily "Predators on Wings" show at Mandai Bird Paradise.
I personally found this bird rather fascinating in looks.
The most arresting feature of the King Vulture is its featherless head and neck which are adorned with vivid colours. The bare skin over the head displays shades of red & purple, while the neck is vivid orange and the throat yellow. There is a prominent irregular golden crest above its orange & black bill. Coupled with a pair of red eye-ringed eyes with light blue irises and black pupils, the King Vulture has arguably the most complicated looking head of any bird.
And then there is its impressive size at an average of 2.5 ft tall and 4 kg weight. Its overall white plumage starkly contrasts with grey to black over its wing coverts, flight and tail feathers.
All in all, it is a very imposing-looking bird.
King Vultures are native to Central and South America.
