Baby Orangutan Lestari is now 5 months old! 🥰
Under the expert care of her loving Mum, she is growing up healthily into a beautiful little orangutan, capable of sitting upright & standing with support. She was also climbing all over Mum, taking a tumble in the process once.
She remains the apple of her mother's eyes. Mum never let her out of her sight, gazing at her baby adoringly even when she was at rest.
I am in awe as I observed their bonding: Mother & child were together 24/7, almost as if they were one.
Mum still saw the need to shield her baby using the same old "security blanket" of palm fronds. But she also surprised me by unveiling her latest method of hiding baby!😃
Baby Lestari is a Bornean Orangutan born at the Singapore Zoo on 23rd March 2026.
Bornean Orangutans are a critically endangered species.
