It was almost high noon at Ecolake in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and all was quiet. A pair of Black Swans were swimming leisurely side by side. They started crossing their long necks while dipping their heads almost together.
Over a span of almost half an hour, they repeatedly took turns to arch their necks gracefully over each other, while synchronising their neck dipping.
It was beautiful to watch.
It took me a while to realise that they were performing a courtship "dance"
Black Swans pair for life. This shared routine reinforces their pair bonding.
When the dance was over, I noticed that this Black Swan Couple had already prepared a new nest! They were going to start a new family soon!
