This interesting looking animal is one of Sulawesi's main attraction. I was thrilled to spot a family of four, roosting snugly inside a broken tree trunk. Although they are supposedly nocturnal, they appeared wide awake in the late morning.
Spectral Tarsiers are mammals related to monkeys and apes. Interestingly, unlike the latter, tarsiers are purely carnivorous, feeding mainly on insects. They hunt in the night, using their large eyes & bat-like ears to good effect.
The Spectral Tarsier's conservation status is listed as Vulnerable, due to loss of habitat.
They are a protected species at Tangkoko Nature Park, Sulawesi.
