This pair of Spotted Owlets are long time residents at an urban park in the heart of bustling Bangkok. Their ability to thrive in a city was not an anomaly, as this species is known for their ability to adapt to human habitation.
Appearing totally ease with gawking passersby and admirers alike, these Owlets surveyed the gathering crowd with nonchalance. Despite being nocturnal, both were awake more than half the time I was there admiring them, their huge yellow eyes calmly scanning their surroundings.
Spotted Owlets smallish owls at an average of just 20 cm. As befits their name, their greyish-brown upperparts are spotted with white, while their white underparts are streaked brown. Both male and female look similar.
Spotted Owlets are residents of tropical Asia and South-east Asia.
