An Orangutan baby boom is happening at the Singapore Zoo! Among the three babies born recently was one very special baby boy, Ayaan, Singapore's very first conceived by assisted reproduction and delivered by Caeserean section.
Ayaan was born to Chomel, the granddaughter of the much-beloved Ah Meng, Singapore's iconic orangutan. Ayaan had to be delivered by C-section on 18th March, because of pregnancy complications. This Caesarean section delivery was the first ever performed on primates in Singapore.
In this video, Chomel could be seen carrying two babies; one was Ayaan, while the other was 1.5-month-old Lio. Lio was fostered to Chomel because his birth Mum was a first-time mother who had problems nursing.
This fostering is a testament to Chomel being a very capable mum!
