Hailing from Saarbrücken on the German/French border, Sandra first found fame in the girl group, Arabaesque, who scored five German hit singles in the early 80s. Branching out as a solo artist, she opened her account with the worldwide hit, “(I’ll Never Be) Maria Magdalena” in 1985. (Surprisingly, this song didn’t register in either the US or the UK.)
Sandra went on to score with many hit singles and albums, particularly in Germany. She was also one of the voices behind Enigna’s worldwide hit album, “MCMXC a.D.” in 1990.
Sandra was helped by some of the very best music people in Germany (or the world, for that matter). Hubert Kemmler wrote many of her hit recordings as well those for his own band, Hubert Kah. Producer Armand Volker was the man behind Münchener Freiheit’s very successful German chart run in the 80s/early 90s as well as working with Hubert Kah and the Spider Murphy Gang. Michael Cretu produced all of Sandra’s hit recordings and was the man behind Enigma. He and Sandra married in 1988.
