Great up-tempo cover of a song originally recorded by Detroit’s Reflections in 1964. Their version reached #6 on the Hot-100 and led to many covers over the years. The organ work on this version by Mental As Anything sounds a lot like that of the Young Rascals.
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Mental As Anything released their first album, “Get Wet” in Australia in 1979 and it charted at #19. “Just Like Romeo And Juliet” was their 5th single on Regular and reached #27 on the Australian charts.
The band recorded a slew of successful albums and singles in Australia. One of these, the 45, “Live It Up” (featured in the film, “Crocodile Dundee”) reached #3 in the UK in 1987.
Producer Cameron Allan founded the Regular label with Martin Fabinyi in 1978. It was associated with the bigger Australain label, Festival. Mr. Allan was also working with Australian groups such as Flowers, Icehouse (both on Regular) and the Sports around the time of this release.
