in which alexandra from the fall paints an insta pic of a cafe
okay, so, special treat for anyone who actually reads the video descriptions: an excerpt of the exact story I wrote in that cafe. (the story is unpublished as of yet, hit me up if you run a literary journal and want a story about childhood memories and buried trauma)

When we were friends Amber’d never invited me to her house, but we’ve been assigned to do a science project together, so here I am. And the funny thing is I’d always thought she was rich, because she was always talking about her horses, but when I’m there in her house, the kitchen floor is like mine at home, tiles peeling and shifting to show the black grout underneath, and the carpets have weird stains, and when we rush down the winding staircase—she’s got a spiral one!—we have to step in a specific rhythm to avoid the squeaky spots and sticky-uppy nails. Even the lighting’s the same: plump yellow globes, spotted black on the inside where bugs had died against the glass, nothing like the bright white of rich girls’ houses.
For the first hour she’s got her chin bulldog-butted out, waiting for me to say something. Her mother chews with her mouth open, and there’s a bearded man in a hole-y t-shirt there who I’ve never seen at school functions.
“Mom’s boyfriend Mark,” Amber explains. “He’s always here these days.” He looks friendly and says very little.

anyway I have two more of these tiny square canvases right now and can't buy any more during quarantine unless I try and track em down online, so who knows how many more of these there will be. maybe none, cause im lazy.
