Let's take a look through DC Comics' Elseworlds imprints, and see where and when the imprint has decided to place these legendary heroes! And if they work in their new environments.
Transcript:
Kamandi at Earth's End. In the 22nd century, a group of biomechs led by one named Boxer cleanse the Earth of sub-human mutants, while tracking down the one responsible for the second apocalypse. Meanwhile in the bunkers, Kamandi tends to his dying friend Fixer, before going to fix a broken pump, expositing he's about to become the last human in the bunker. He's called away by an AI he refers to as Mother, and as he enters her control room, she tells him that it's time to leave the bunker and explore the world above. She explains she's found the being behind the second apocalypse in Arizona, and she needs him to go kill them. Kamandi protests and demands to see his virtual reality girlfriend, which she obliges, only for the alarms to knock him out of it, signalling the intrusion of mutants, who have also grabbed Fixer. He exterminates them, but Fixer dies soon after. Mother tells him she intentionally opened the airlock so he'll begin his mission, and when he still refuses, she releases toxic gas into the bunker, saying he can return once his mission is complete. Kamandi starts exploring the above world, marveling at seeing it for the first time, when he's ambushed by another gang of mutants. Luckily, he's saved by a biker named Zom, who outruns the mutants, and takes Kamandi to the mansion he's been squatting in, catching on that Kamandi was a bunker dweller. They fend off mutant airships using Zom's impressive arsenal, when the biomechs arrive and subdue the two, announcing they're going to use Kamandi to destroy Mother. However, the communication console Mother gave Kamandi wraps around Boxer and explodes, distracting the biomechs long enough for Kamandi and Zom to escape. The biomechs blow up Zom's mansion and plant a tracker on Kamandi, saying they'll just stalk them until they lead them to what they want to find. The two run into another mutant gang and hide in the Natural History Museum, where Zom is convinced Jurassic Park actually happened. They're confronted by another survivor named Saphira, who's captured by a gang, and despite Kamandi and Zom's best efforts, is abducted in one of their helicopters. Kamandi is torn between fulfilling Mother's mission and going after the first real woman he's seen in a while, but the goals correspond as they're headed to Jersey, where they'll track down Saphira on the way. They make it to Hackensack, which is home to a large concentration of mutants, led by Big Q, who puts Saphira and other women up in a slave auction. Kamandi pulls out a gun, only to find the population is quite heavily armed. But before they can be executed, Saphira uses the distraction to pull a gun off one of the mutants and shoots Big Q and his henchmen, the three escaping in the confusion. They stop to refuel, the three making their introductions and Kamandi restating his mission, while the biomechs annihilate all of New Jersey. Their story continuing next issue.
