Gibside parkrun didn't return after the global parkrun covid pause and this community was left without a parkrun. However this incredible community rallied together to find an alternative venue for a local parkrun and Chopwell parkrun was born only 3.8km from the previous parkrun location.

Chopwell Wood parkrun is a gorgeous one lap, undulating, trail run in Chopwell Woodland Park - Forestry England. The course design is really clever and we loved the out-and-back section which was great for cheering on other runners.

We headed here as I was Wilson Index hunting (If you're not familiar with the parkrun challenges then I explain some of them in the following video: youtu.be/m-f__DThV-A?si=spbEQ50pXW7OG2NH). I only needed a 68 and a 99 to get my WI above 100 so I was delighted to make it to an event 99, especially with so many cancellations around! Although, we never did find a 99 ice cream!

The café was great but please do remember cash to avoid disappointment! Huge thanks to the wonderful team at Chopwell Wood parkrun for a wonderful morning. I highly recommend a visit to Gibside if you are visiting Chopwell Wood parkrun!
