It is time to return to the world of Fears to Fathom. This long running series of indie horror gems has recently received a new chapter and the first that is entirely co-op. You HAVE to play this with antother player or friend in order to complete it.
You play as the couple Marcus and Tessa who are moving to a different state. During their trip they are experiencing car trouble and have to stay the night at a mysterious house. Things, as expected, are not as they seem.
For a first iteration of the co-op system I think this game did a very good job. There are moments where you have to work together to get certain tasks done and it is cool to explore the world with the two of you. There are also segments where you have to split up and those moments contain some of the best scares.
I feel future chapters can tweak the experience a bit by having the more interesting things to do for the players while they are out on their own. The constant bickering of the couple also felt a bit weird since me and my buddy were not invested in their personal problems at all. It might have been better to just have them be a happy couple as the drama did not add anything to the story or experience. All in all it was a great time and I hope to see more horror co-op games in the future!

Today we have something very special to archive. Back when I was a teenager one of my favorite anime was Cowboy Bebop. It was the first time I realized that anime and cartoons also existed that were not necessarily targeting a young audience. The style of the characters was different and the storylines were deep and complex. The cyberpunk style mixed with jazzy tones and wild west themes make Cowboy Bebop still a unique anime that has never been copied.
I was therefore surprised to find out that an actual game was made for the PlayStation 2, but it was never released in the west. Only recently was a translation offered online and with that I could finally archive Cowboy Bebop Serenade of Reminiscence and present it to a western audience. The game plays like a beat em up and we follow our heroes Spike, Faye and Jet as we look for a treasure that is linked to a mysterious song called Diamonds.
The games beat em up action can be a bit repetitive, but I was surprised at how fluid and beautifully animated the combos were. You get to play as all three characters and their move set differs greatly. There are also sections where you get to shoot and these are a bit less optimal as the controls are clunky and the AI is a bit iffy. Then there are moments where you get to steer some flying vehicles and these offer some nice, little variety. Some of the moments can be a bit frustrating and outlast their welcome like when you are controlling Jet and need to find bombs on your ship. Other than that it nails the atmosphere and all the charactes are voiced by their original cast.
It shows great potential and maybe someday we will get a cowboy bebop game with current game technology.
