Today we archive one of the best indie horror games of 2026. The Skin Stapler is by the same developer who also made Suffer The Night which is an awesome indie horror gem.
We play as old detective Dick Slater who has seen a lot of bad things during his career. He loves to talk to himself like he's Batman and a new series of gruesome incidents have occured across town. The Skin Stapler is leaving a trail of hints behind and seemingly Slater and the Skin Stapler have something in common.
The game does not take itself serious at all and that is a good thing. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times while playing this, but it never gets ludacris to a point where you are not invested in the story anymore. You play as both the victims and the detectives and this results in a brilliant change of pace and variety.
There are segments where you run night shifts for various jobs and it plays with the gameplay loop of many similar games where you have to prepare food or snacks for incoming customers. There are also some really tense moments and great jumpscares. The detective sections always offer a nice puzzle to complete and overall I was really impressed with this game. The dark, nasty atmosphere reminded me of my favorite movie Seven and I cannot wait to see what these talented developers have in store for us next.
