The final boss theme from the 2018 Doom megawad 'Eviternity,' accompanying Doomguy's epic showdown with Archangelus, the traitor who allowed the demons into Heaven, bringing about its corruption.

Hell yeah, I've been wanting to post this one for ages. What an honour to have scored the finale to what seems to be one of the most popular Doom mapsets of recent years. The MAP30 music is primarily what I was brought on to the Eviternity team to do, back in May 2018. I had meant to do other pieces as well, including one for my own map, but starting uni in the September of that year, as well as writing this piece meant I didn't have much time in those last few months.

Dragonfly early on had brought up the idea of having a non-MIDI track for MAP30, and although the idea itself for MAP30 changed many times (it was initially going to be inside a massive clock tower that stood at the opposite end of MAP29 from the start), that was the thing that stuck.

Once Dragonfly had built MAP30 in October 2018, I went about on the music, and once I passed MAP29 over to Dragonfly to finish, it became my main focus on the project, with the piece finished on December 2nd, 8 days before release. I tried to sync the opening stages as best as one can with Doom music, such that if you immediately run forward at the start of the map and never pause etc, the arena builds itself and the angel's tomb collapses as the string riff kicks in, the outer walls start lowering in the short bridge, with all the monsters revealed as the piece explodes. From there on it's impossible to sync anything because it's entirely dependent on how the fight plays out, but this video should give a rough idea of what I had in mind as a rough structure :)

It's quite insane to think that over a year has passed since Eviternity's release, and we are now approaching a year since the final version came out. Really I only played a small part, with most of my work showing up right at the end of the set, but I look back on Eviternity's development as one of my favourite times with Doom, and with the insane reception it got, I'm really proud to have been a part of it. For that, I'd like to thank Dragonfly and the rest of the team, Major Arlene for the Cacowards article, decino for his awesome playthrough, and everyone who has played this WAD.

Additionally, special thanks to antares031 for allowing me to use footage from his UV max demo - it was easier than me trying to play this map on UV and look awesome at the same time :P

And of course as always, thank YOU for listening! I hope you enjoyed this piece :)
