Here's the first piece I wrote in 2017. A melancholic orchestral piece focusing on the piano and oboe (used to be a flute) - Tears of the Wanderer is a follow-up to Stardust. The composition assignment I had for the course I was doing at the time required two tracks, but after I scrapped one attempt, I had lost a lot of time, and basically had to churn something out in just six hours, and that's what this piece was.
Now I've had a bit more time to do it properly, I'm really glad I chose to remake this piece, when I first planned to start these remakes, I wasn't sure if I'd actually redo this one, but really, my piano playing and production has improved a lot in the last two years, it would have been criminal not to. The lead instrument alongside the piano here was originally the flute - but coming back to this piece I feel the flute is too sweet-sounding for a piece that is basically about lamentation/bitter resentment. Up steps the oboe, its piercing tone for me sounds much sadder here.
I experimented with the video a bit too, after recording I set up a wide shot and played again with a bit more feeling than I tend to do when recording - it won't be exact of course but it's reasonably convincing!

Next up is The Final Judgement, which is the most intimidating of them all. I've been practicing quite hard recently for it, but I can't make any promises about when it'll be done, aiming for late January though. See you on the other side!
