STORY TIME
I wanted to write as many tracks as I possibly could for this project, and I think that literally ended up being the case. In the last 3 weeks before release I got absolutely squeezed for time and only had the energy to work on stuff during the weekends, which was less than great timing when I still had a lot of work to do. I was basically left with something like 7 days (effectively) to write as many pieces of music, as well as finshing the non-MIDI MAP30 track which was still only about 30 seconds long approaching the end of November.
I churned them out as fast as I could and I think I got away with it, the MIDIs for MAP02, MAP17, MAP23 were all done in this time, but I had to make a couple of sacrifices - I had to give up on making MAP32 and get Guardsoul to finish it (this was for the best), and I also gave up my claim on MAP33's music to Jimmy (this was also for the best).

But on December 9, the final day, I still wasn't done, but this was a Saturday, and the previous weekends had been going so well. MAP30's music was still only about half-finished and MAP14's music was um, not started. 30 took priority because of it being a non-MIDI but I'd accepted at this point that it would have to be released in RC1 as a demo version without the real guitars and bass. Jimmy is a chad (he was basically on stand by all day to help me out if I needed it) and gave me an idea which allowed me to get through the last half of the track relatively quickly (more on that another time), so I had the track ready for release just before 8pm.

FOUR HOURS UNTIL RELEASE AND I STILL HAVEN'T STARTED MAP14'S MIDI OH GOD.

Luckily I'd had an idea for this map's music for ages. Aurelius had given me a few Alfonzo MIDIs as reference tracks, highlighting very forward bass lines and an overall chill atmosphere but still with a present groove - this balance makes sense because while Equanimity has some pretty heavy action, some people will spent a LOT of time trying to figure out those puzzles and the probably last thing you'd want in that situation is a really high-key music track distracting you!

These days I'm generally more interested in writing lighter/more upbeat music than what I'm known for, but I've been really wanting to have a go at noir-like downtempo atmospheric jazz. I was listening to Bohren & Der Club of Gore's Sunset Mission on repeat when making MAP32 and it's the sort of thing I imagined for MAP14 before Aurelius gave his direction, so there's a little bit of that added on to the end of the track, but I definitely want to expand on this one day!

Thanks for listening!
