Hey everyone! It's been a while since I released something - nearly two months in fact, but at last I can bring you the new version of The Final Judgement, my second piece from 2017, a 10-minute symphonic power metal epic.
Why the actual f did I think this was a good idea when I wrote it? Let's get some stuff straight here - this was around the time that I knew that this channel would come into being, and I'd have to be able to play the stuff I was writing, and yet that somehow didn't stop me writing what is to this day the craziest piece in my repertoire. 19-year-old me had some issues.
So I worked on this version for about 3 months, I made a start on the practicing phase back in October after I finished Stardust, some parts I already knew how to play (like the last synth solo), others needed literally tens of hours of grindy practice to get good at (I refused to compromise on what I wanted for the last guitar solo). There were other delays, there was the Christmas period where I was away for two weeks, and I've been writing for other stuff in the meantime, such as the Doom WAD Eviternity which came out in December, and I'm also involved with the Elementalism project, and that's all in addition to the stuff I'm writing for university assignments. Most of the actual recordings you see in this video were done in the new year, except for a couple of the synth solos.
The day of this upload comes a day before the 2-year-anniversary of me finishing The Final Judgement, so I've dropped a lot of time - I think at my peak I was up to 21 months behind when River Run/Ludum Suite came out, but yeah, this has all slowed me down a lot, and I feel iffy about how much longer this will be out of sync for - I really want to be all caught up by the end of this year, and I'm primarily composing in non-MIDI nowadays - meaning a lot of the newest work can just go up here as they are already, this will help a lot. I'm so so proud of how this remake turned out, I had to make compromises, but I think the additions I've made, and even changes to some melodies benefit the piece hugely overall, and the ending in particular is everything I hoped it would be from the very start, but my god I'm glad this is over, everything left to do should be easy compared to this.
I'm not ok.
Thanks for listening everyone - really hope you enjoy this one, far and away the biggest challenge on this project, and I don't think I need to say "so far." It has highlighted how I've grown though just on these remakes alone. Remember how even the rhythm guitars on Blood Rush were MIDI because I couldn't play them?
