Here's the new recording of my final Panophobia level theme, a piece now more widely known as the soundtrack for MAP32 of Insane_Gazebo's project, Sunder.
Clocking in at just over 8 minutes, Aorta is the only long piece I wrote in 2018. Targeting the "fear of blood" map for Panophobia, and thus named after our largest artery, I wanted to take quite a "brutal" approach with this one, a crushing atmosphere fit for tunnels and dungeons with vast reserves of blood and flesh. It wasn't an easy piece to write; it took me 5 weeks as I was trying to split myself between quite a few things at that time, including the remake of Tranquil Land which, if I'm remembering correctly, itself took a month.
The difficulty in writing paid off though, while there aren't many to choose from, Aorta is probably my personal favourite from my 2018 works, although one particular university assignment comes close... (more on that in a couple of months :P)
Oddly enough, this remake has also taken me 5 weeks for the same reason but I'm even busier. I moved back to university just after I *recorded* Contemplation, and I started working on Aorta on the day that Devil's Dozen was published, but damn, there was just so much to do here, and this was between starting a new piece for Elementalism which I still need to get back to, and of course university work and boy there's a lot of that this year! :P So yeah, this has gone out later than expected but I'm really happy with how it's turned out, and I hope you all agree :) Glad to finally have a 7-string guitar too, I've been wanting that symmetry with my bass for a while.
MIDI version tomorrow, with the same backdrops so you actually get a chance to see them, heh. May or may not be able to pull back the two week schedule: next piece is a MIDI but it's also the shortest piece I've ever written, so we'll see...
