This is a simple space ambient piece, a bit more minimalist, I guess, than what I usually do.
Into the Unknown differs from previous remakes I've done for this channel in that the original already used more advanced software, as I had started a music production course in 2016, I was able to step away from my usual setup of free soundfonts and VSTs - with this track being made early in the composition module as a demonstration of dissonant elements (my final assessed pieces for the composition module were Stardust and Tears of the Wanderer.) The original was made in Logic, using some amazing presets in the Alchemy sampler, with some additional stuff from Kontakt libraries.
And that's why this took so long to remake - I don't have Alchemy, since I'm not using Logic (or MacOS, for that matter). Initially I was still very much chasing the goal of recreating the original sounds as closely as possible, but my limited ability with electronic music makes this a lot more difficult - I tend to start from a preset and then modify it to be closer to what I'm after. I decided to start over, get sounds that still worked for the track but were different in their own way, otherwise it would have just sounded like a failed recreation attempt. I'm not really sure I captured the feel of the original as well as I was hoping for, but otherwise I quite like how it came out. I wish I could have just edited the original project file, honestly.
Similar issues in conjunction with high workload have also delayed the Planetarium, which I also started making in Logic, so while I've got a roughly complete demo rebuilt for Mercury, Venus quickly stalled due to its more ambient nature. Not sure I'll reach that idealistic goal of having a preview of the album ready to take the place of the original video :I
