Let's take a look through DC Comics' Elseworlds imprints, and see where and when the imprint has decided to place these legendary heroes! And if they work in their new environments.

The two team up and assault another vampirized crime boss, the duo making quick work of his gang. Batman confirms that Joker is indeed in charge of all the vampires, and, knowing how quickly they retreat when confronted at night, enlists Gordon to destroy as many of them as he can during their vulnerable daylight hours. All but 15 are wiped out in one day, thus Joker finally springs the trap he's been preparing for Batman. He lures the heroes to a warehouse where they're assaulted by wooden crossbow stakes, but they're too quick for that and slaughter the remaining vampires, including Selena getting revenge on the one named Creach who turned her into the werebeast. However, the Joker fires a bolt at a distracted Batman, which Selena leaps in front of, killing her instead. In a rage, Batman pursues the Joker, who runs into a nearby church thinking the crosses will keep him at bay. But they have no effect on Batman as he's yet to drink innocent blood, and he snaps the Joker's neck. However, enraged and now with nothing to distract him from his thirst, Batman finally succumbs and drains Joker's blood, destroying the goodness keeping him heroic and immune to most vampire weaknesses. He stakes Joker and flees home, crosses and rain now able to hurt him, and in his final moments of sanity, orders Alfred and Gordon to stake him, which they sadly do, seemingly ending him. I like this one a lot better than the first! It's much more of a Batman story, having to come to terms with the monster he's become, while still trying to be a hero and justify his ideals. There's less pretentious narration and the dialog and overall story are a lot more character-based, with the addition of more characters from the Batman universe very appreciated. The artwork is also much improved, much clearer with a lot more color and expression work, especially when it contrasts Batman's human side with his wilder bestial outbursts. Though there are panels that are clearly rushed and amorphous, with the Joker weirdly looking drawn from a different source for every shot. Some of the artwork is pretty gross, and you could argue Joker's plan is out of character, but this story held my attention. Red Rain was the introduction, but this shows just what can be accomplished with this idea. And I guess Frank Miller's Batman was actually this variant who figured everyone just ate rats.
