Let's review each episode of the TV show The Venture Bros, the greatest adult animated series ever made!

In Past Tense, Team Venture and a few of their friends and enemies attend the funeral of their old college friend Mike Sorayama. Only to find he's not actually dead, but they might soon be. This is a return to more plot-centric episodes, as most of the runtime involves flashbacks to the adults' college years, where they all just so happened to be friends at the exact same college in the exact same dorm. Which even Hank has to point out how crazy that is. And that the aforementioned Sorayama was usually the brunt of their pranks, hence why he's finally taking his revenge on the main four who wronged him. And I like how quote unquote realistically it's all portrayed. Yes, it's awful that Venture, Brock, Pete, and Baron Underbite were so mean to him, but they're not presented as sociopathic bullies like any other show would portray them as. They were hormonal college students who didn't really think through their actions, and who now regret what they did. Especially Pete, whose prank got him fired. Plus Sorayama wasn't exactly a stable individual to begin with, with a stalker obsession towards another student named Leslie Cohen. Who he bases his squad of humanoid robots on! That is hilariously messed up! Meanwhile, Hank and Dean develop a brain between them and figure the best way to save their dad is to call upon their grandpa's old friends, the original Team Venture. Who, yes, also become recurring characters. Especially this Sean Connery stand-in Colonel Gentleman. And again, I love how competent they're presented as. In any other comedy, they'd emphasize how old and out of shape the original team are, and the entire joke would be that they're ancient farts who mess things up and only accidentally maybe stumble into where they need to be. But no. They prove themselves perfectly capable of tracking down the kidnapped heroes and villains. Possibly even more than the current generation. Who also have a brilliant way of getting out, as Brock utilizes a failed attempt to create his own escape plan. ...And is so thirsty for blood by that point, that he rails on Team Venture who have attempted to disguise themselves as the Leslie Cohen bots. Yeah, this episode is REALLY funny as well as story-based. Especially the beginning, where they're late to the funeral because they had to help a colony of ant people. Brock giving a knowing smile as they mention how good a friend he was to their queen. Followed by a crash landing into the cemetery that you just have to see for yourself! As well as the twist behind Sorayama and who he truly is. Yeah, I enjoyed this one and think it's another essential episode of the show. And I love that even the sheltered Hank and Dean are underwhelmed by Christian pamphlets.
